Lock-Up Period

Published Editorial review How we check the data

Short answer

A period after an IPO during which certain existing shareholders cannot sell their shares.

A lock-up period restricts insiders and other existing shareholders from selling specified shares for a defined period after an IPO. The restriction is intended to prevent a sudden wave of selling immediately after the listing. When a lock-up expires, additional shares may become available to trade, which can affect supply and the share price.
